ZICAFFE subscribed to the European Regional Development Fund Operational Programme (ERDF OP SICILY 2014/2020)- Action 4.2.1. “Incentives aimed at reducing energy consumption and climate-changing gas emissions of companies and production areas including the installation of systems for the production of energy from renewable sources for own consumption”, financed by Axis 4 “Sustainable energy and quality of life”, specific objective “Reduction of energy consumption and emissions in businesses and integration of renewable sources”, D.D.G. 870 from 17/10/2018, project number 264618980143, denominated “Energy efficiency of Zicaffè”, contribution admitted by D.R.S. n°1240 from September 24, 2021.

The purpose of the programme is the reduction of energy consumption and of climate-changing gas emissions by installing systems, which use energy from renewable sources, and by using low energy consuming machines. The company already meant to realise another photovoltaic system (the previous one has been realised in 2015) in order to increase the production of electric energy from renewable sources.

With the help of its subscription to the ERDF OP 2014/2020, the company has been able to realise another photovoltaic system of 171,12 kWh, increasing the production of renewable energy by over 250.000 kWh. In the meantime, the company replaced a packaging machine with a more performant, energy-efficient machine.

The result is a drastic reduction of traditional energy consumption and the production of clean energy with solar power systems.

Zicaffè’s use of modern systems occured from the company’s necessity to combine:

• Compatibility of architectural requirements and environment protection.
• Fossil fuel savings with reduction of climate-changing gas emissions.
• Production of energy sufficient for own consumption without emissions and polluting material.

The total amount of investments included in the project is € 316.915,00, € 216.060,75 of which represent the contribution received thanks to the ERDF OP.
